eMac Apple computers have always dominated the “Creative Industries” since the launch of the Macintosh in 1984.  The Media Workshop has been using Apple Macintoshs (Macs) since we bought our first one back in 1993, this was a Apple Classic with a 9″ black and white screen, 4 MB of RAM and a 20 MB hard disc. This was when Apple did not sell their computers in shops! unlike today through the popularity of the iPod, Apple computers have increased their user base.

Over the years we have upgraded our Mac suite many times, more recently we have acquired and bought a number of second-hand eMacs. One of the beauties of using Macs is that they can last longer and can be upgraded to run the current operating system. By purchasing second-hand and receiving donations we can do our bit for the environment, not stretching our tight budget too much and still offer up-to-date (well almost!) equipment to our Open Access users and project participants.

What does the Mac Suite offer?
In our Mac suite you can scan photos, negatives and slides; correct and manipulate photographs with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements; create design work with QuarkXpress, Indesign, or Illustrator; copy your work to CD and DVD as well as making printouts up to B0 (141 x 100cm).

We run regular short free and low cost courses, after which you can take out membership and come along to our Open Access sessions every Thursday 1-9pm (school term only) where help and support is always on hand. You’ll need to cover the cost of printouts or other materials used.

Donate to The Media Workshop
If you have any Apple Mac computer (G4 and above) you would like to donate to The Media Workshop please contact us and we will put your old Mac to good use.
