Media Workshop Funding Cut Update March 2008The Southampton City Council budget for 2008 – 09 had now been announced. Instead of the anticipated 15% cut to our funding, we are pleased to confirm that we received the same as last year plus an inflationary increase!
The Media Workshop would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who supported us by writing letters and lobbying on our behalf. We know that we can make a difference in this city through our creative projects and skills development and the proposed 15% cut would have made that extremely difficult.
And a big thanks to Southampton City Council for providing us with the opportunity to continue the valuable work that we do.
PROPOSED GRANT CUT October 2007
Southampton City Council have recommended budget proposals which will include a 15% cut in our funding from April 2008. This will mean that we will need to offer a reduced service to the community and we are obviously fighting hard to try and ensure this does not happen We are an important cultural and community facility in Southampton, having built links and trust with individuals and groups over many years. We add to the quality of life in the city and as a charity, we believe our low-cost and free work with individuals and small local groups is at the heart of our remit. It is this which we feel will be particularly affected by the proposed cut of 15%. We often work in partnership with other local organisations, including the Community Languages Service, Oral History Unit, as well as other arts organisations; cuts to their grants will also affect us adversely.
