Step Forward started as a News Journal for Mount Pleasant Photography Workshop (as we were then know) by members of the youth group.

It was produced from 1984 to 1999 with 21 editions. Edition 1 had a focus on the Workshop, Mount Pleasant Middle School and the local community including a back page article on Art Asia who were then only 3 years old! Soon to be the darlings of Southampton’s North Guild Cultural quarter no less.

By edition 21 it was being delivered to 4000 homes in the Inner City of Southampton.

We are currently working hard to scan in all the issues of Step Forward and will add editions as and when this is complete. So please call back to see this archive grow!

Nearly all of Step Forward’s editions were created in the traditional ‘paste-up’ way without the use of a computer! So we have scanned in the individual pages as JPEGs. As the early editions had body text typed on a type writer the text is not 100% clear!
