SCAN
The Media Workshop was an active member of the SCAN consortium from 2001 - 2007 having also been involved in the set up of the organisation prior to this. The consortium ended in 2007 and SCAN re-focused as an agency.
SCAN was set up in 2001 as a platform for collaboration and sharing of resources between 12 consortium members in Southern UK. 2003 saw a new phase of development within SCAN through the appointment of a Director in January 2003, and the launch of a website and other activities including the 9PIN project in February 2004. From 2007, SCAN began to work as an agency with a fluid network of partners.
The organisation works in partnership with a range of individuals and organisations from varying disciplines interested in the furthering the creative use of media, technology and interdisciplinary working. The organisation supports artist professional development facilitating and brokering partnerships and commissions with organisations. On occasion, SCAN brings consortia of partners together wishing to work on a particular topic or theme.
In 2004 the SCAN consortium visited the Ars Electronica Linz 2004. Ars Electronica is the most important festival of digital art world wide. The festival is conducted under a different motto each year. Annually since 1979, the Festival has featured a lineup of symposia, exhibitions, performances and events designed to further an artistic and scientific confrontation with the social and cultural phenomena that are the consequences of technological change.
